Zendo

Zendo (zen-doh), n. 1. the meditation room of a Zen monastery.

Photo of Zendo at the gateHer registered name is Horizen Zendo v Eagleheart. Zendo is the first puppy we have ever kept. She is from our H litter (our 8th litter born April 8, 2009). We knew there was a special puppy in Ammo’s tummy that we were going to keep. As it turned out, Ammo had 4 girls and 4 boys so we had 4 girls to choose from! Gina knew which one it was the moment she was born but it took me several weeks to figure it out. Zendo knew all along that she belonged here and was making herself known in her little 3 week puppy way; she was the puppy always crawling into my lap. The joke became, “Guess who’s in my lap?”

Zendo was from our “tractor” litter (we always give the puppies temporary names based on their rick rack color) so her name was Caterpillar (yellow tractor). Everyone that came over was drawn to Caterpillar… even a little girl who picked her up like a rag doll and Caterpillar just let her do it.

Zendo is a character… she is really intelligent and a problem solver! She is a high drive Entlebucher, always herding her momma Ammo and the goats every time she gets the chance. But she has a real sweet side too and loves people and especially children like Shaman did. She is a little more rambunctious, like her great grandma Bliss, and loves to play! She gets me off my butt many times a day to go play. She brings me her favorite toy called Orange and gives me that ‘let’s play’ look. Irresistible! She has her mellow times too but only after playing! Ammo and her are best friends and love to wrestle, play ball together and RUN!!!

We knew Zendo was a special godsend when we realized she has a heart shape on her chest. She is Kathy’s “Heart Dog.”

Zendo passed her OFA hip test with a GOOD rating. She passed her gonioscopy (glaucoma test), and her annual Eye Cerf. Her prcd outcome is a “carrier” (won’t get PRA but has the recessive gene) of the PRA gene so we will only breed her to “clear” males. Zendo is very true to the breed in temperament and looks. She received her Canine Good Citizen certificate when she was only 6 months old! Our puppies learn to sit at 6 weeks old so she had that down early on! We socialize our puppies to lots of people, other dogs, strange noises, etc so Zendo was duly prepared to be tested, and aced it!

Zendo had her first litter of 8 puppies February of 2012. She was a GREAT mom and puppies turned out very social, confident and friendly but with more herding instinct just like mamma Zendo. They are all doing great in their new homes all across the United States!
